In Filmmaking 3, students use Apple’s Final Cut Pro editing system. This workshop teaches basic theory and practice of film editing, completing the
post-production phase of films shot in the Filmmaking 2 course. Students will first edit the “picture” component of their film. They then build multiple layers of sound combining sound effects, either recorded in the field or from sound effects libraries, with music and voice-over. Each student’s progress is reviewed and critiqued in class.
Students in Filmmaking 3 will be required to view a variety of films from the “golden era” of Hollywood to the present time. The class will then discuss how the editing in these films affected the mood and pacing of the story and how styles of editing have evolved over time.
